I am rather excited to share this tutorial with you. We are returning to the tomato page and adding this lovely sprig of heritage tomatoes with their beautiful patterns and their lovely jewel-like colours.
My reference was a little bit bluer than it should have been, so the colours are a little subdued in comparison to the reference pack. The techniques remain the same, just add some more lemon and a little bit more vibrancy to your mixes, I suppose this underlines the importance of having a fresh subject in front of you. However, this year the tomatoes that I've grown have a very blue-grey stem and the colour is a perfect match to the colour I have painted in this tutorial, happy days!
I have used a new technique for attaining a sharp pattern on the smooth skin of the tomatoes. Just remember to make sure everything is dry before you try this technique and make sure everything is dry before you remove the masking fluid.
I thoroughly enjoyed doing all the wonderful little textures that the tomato has to offer and I hope you do too.
Happy painting as always.
Peace and joy
