My tutorial here is part 1 of a poppy painting. Always popular, the poppy is however quite a challenge to paint. The flower has a deep red colour but the fragility of the petals allows light to flood through. The petals also have a crumpled appearance and a silkiness. I have put this up as an advanced tutorial due to the complexity of the centre but as always it is up to you, if you are just starting out and love poppies don't let the level scare you off, just have a go. The colour mixing will be the most interesting part of this project, I also show how I combine photographs to create a study that works well on the page.
My best and warmest wishes to you all.
