Have a sneaky peek at our Latest Tutorial
Hello lovely painters,
I hope you are enjoying your gardens. Here in the UK, we are having a very hot summer, unusually hot for May! This means that all the roses are coming all at once, and we have a collision of late spring flowers with midsummer flowers; there is so much to see and so much to paint and record. I'm tempted to do some more rose tutorials; you love them so much that it seems rude not to paint more.
However, we are all surrounded by the beauty of wild and weedy flowers, and we have come to the point where we are going to paint the dandelion flower. I know some of you have been waiting for a tutorial on the dandelion for some time, so this one is for you.
We are jumping straight in with a yellow pencil to sketch out the profile of the flower; it's a different approach to normal, and it means that you have less graphite to deal with on such a small bloom. This technique is wonderful if you are painting from live specimens or maybe sitting in a meadow and sketching alfresco. In this tutorial, we are painting the flower head, the stem, and the part of the flower that remains once the seeds have blown away. Eventually, you will have tutorials for each stage of the plant. You could put this into your sketchbook, or you could paint this as a beautiful portrait of one of our most iconic weeds.
Wishing you peace as always and some gentle time to paint.
Billy x
