With this tutorial, we return to our Lords and Ladies (arum maculatum) study page, to paint the berry stem that follows after the flowers mid to late summer.
Here I have added the extra option of using coloured pencils to really make the berries smooth and shine off the page. Don't be afraid to paint more than one of these on the page. maybe enlarge a section? It's your study page, so you can arrange the plants as you wish.
We will be returning to the leaves later on in the year to add more information and interest to the page, and to look into concave and convex areas on leaves, so do keep it aside if you can.
This is a beautiful plant to paint and will help you develop your observation and brush skills as well as allowing you to play with mixing paint and pencil.
NB: this plant is toxic so if you are handling the real thing be careful to wash your hands and keep it away from children and animals. Better to take some photographs if you can.
Happy painting, wishing you peace, sunshine and a little rain.
