Lords & Ladies (arum maculatum) - Preview

This project is a study page in landscape layout. This wonderful and fascinating plant grows wild in the hedgerows near and around where I live, it features in many British book illustrations based around the hidden countryside verges and ancient hedges.

I love the shape of the early spring spathes and the myriad of greens it has, hopefully, to inspire us to paint.

This is a simple shape to practice and perfect for layering the first wash, then detail and then a final tea wash.

Three fairly simple stages but a chance to paint perfect.

I have played with the stems slightly to place them gently in a pleasing layout.

We will return to paint this plant at the berry stage and again for the leaves and maybe use some other illustrative techniques to embellish the page.

I hope you will agree this is something fairly quick to paint and something charming to study.

Peace and flowers
Billy x
