By popular demand, I am covering the basics on a study page.
On this particular tutorial I take you through some basics, we are discussing the main elements we need to know in botanical painting, line, shape, tone, form, colour, texture, space, and light.
This is a nice page for beginners, but also great for those wanting to refresh and cement the basic techniques onto one pretty page.
I talk about how wet the glaze should be, how dark the paint should be and importantly why.
I advise on recognising tone and adjusting it to match your subject, mixing colours and the show the tips I use to get things matching beautifully.
We concentrate on the fabulous sepals of the Hellebores (and yes, I occasionally call them petals!) and white parrot tulip petals. We are looking at the subtle colours patterns and different ways to illustrate them and finishing our page with some ink outline drawings. This is a wonderful way to step back to painting after a break or a super way to start your practice pages.
Peace, hope and gentle rain!
