Horse Chestnut Leaf - Preview

The wonderful Horse Chestnut leaf is one of the first to show signs of autumn colour and the myriad of pretty colours makes it a fun leaf to paint. It has the appearance of a small treasure map with dark island patches in a sea of green, well I think so 🙂.

The process is lots of small wet in wet patches and layers of tea washes, together with a softening from the eradicator and some detail with a size one brush. It is absorbing and fun to paint and big enough for you to dance from area to area allowing the paper to rest in between actions.

I have placed my leaf alongside the conker cluster but it would make a nice study all on its own.

This tutorial will be useful for any similar autumn leaves, so maybe you could make a page of studies?

Wishing you peace and happiness and time to paint
Billy x
