This project captures a beautiful moment in time, the charm of light falling through the shrub on a wonderful late spring day. It is the play of shadows that interested me in this picture, and many students have asked for a project where we go into the building of colours in the shadows on pale flowers.
This is part one, where we paint the main parts of the two main florets of the flower head, I urge you not to rush each stage but take your time mixing the colours and when layering allow plenty of drying time in between. This project will show you the beauty of layering of shadow, returning to areas to build the drama.
The first floret we paint in this class, could be painted on its own as a single study, sadly the petunia tutorial I refer to in this tutorial was too old to carry over to the new site and will be replaced as soon as possible with a nice new film, but the process of painting flowers with fused petals is explained here.
Peace, sunshine and moments of lovely light.
