English Rose - Preview

In anticipation of the old roses blooming, and to celebrate my love of green and pink, I have painted a tiny cluster of the beautiful David Austin rose 'The Generous Gardener'. This is all about the palest of painting with small and gentle cloud-like washes of the lightest pinks.

We have gone close up with the camera to show how even on the smallest of subjects we can still enjoy working wet in wet.

I have added this to one of my larger pieces, you could do this too (a Rose leaf tutorial is due out soon). Or you can paint it as a small subject just on its own, or maybe it could be the start of an old-fashioned Rosebud page? Small things can take time, but you can paint it gently over days or weeks adding extra details as you go.
