Here's a quick run down of the equipment and materials I will be using throughout the tutorials.
I cover all of this in detail plus loads more in the special "techniques" tutorials, included in the free and paid memberships.
I mostly use Hot pressed paper, 300gsm, 425gsm or 640gsm in white (100% cotton is best as it has the most resilience).
I predominantly use Saunders Waterford, hot pressed, high white. I use it in full sheet 300gsm, 425gsm, 640gsm form and in blocks of 300gsm.
I also occasionally use the 'Enhanced Quality' Fabriano Artistico, extra white (look for the sticker and the watermark which travels around one corner)
If you are new to botanical painting the Saunders Waterford is a great paper to start with.
Always chose 100% cotton paper when buying sheets. Start by buying one sheet at a time from your local art shop, make a note of the name, weight and finish of the paper and if you like it you will know what to order next time. If you don't like it you can try another make. This process of trying one sheet before you buy a large pad will save you time and money.
Use your paper scraps for matching and practicing.
