Deep Pink Spotted Orchid : Leaves & Bud - Preview

Hello, lovely painters, this week we return to the beautiful orchid to paint the leaves, the stems, and the buds. 

Painting these big leaves is where I'm in my comfort zone, mixing up these beautiful, rich greens and sweeping them on to create such lovely, big, smooth leaves. You may want to practise them on some spare paper before you add them to your painting. 

The lovely textured and patterned stem and buds are a joy to paint. Don't forget that you can change the angle of the paper to work with your natural, comfortable hand position; this way, you'll have a better chance of achieving smoother edges.

Painting orchids is something you can do almost all year round, as they are very slow to change once they have flowered, giving you plenty of playtime. But they're also good practise for all those beautiful textures and patterns that you're going to need to master for those fragile, more ethereal flowers from the garden. They are a wonderful flower to help you perfect your skills. These magical flowers, which are so precious in their native environment, are a pure joy to paint.
