Hello lovely floral painters, this week we are adding the Passion flower leaves and stem to the Mocha Rose; it is the second part of a colour composition.
I have added this beautiful, curved stem circling the Mocha Rose to create a romantic wave. We will be adding some other flowers to this composition in future tutorials. Don't be afraid to use these separate tutorials in other paintings; this would be very easy to add to the Passion flower study if you have room. You could even just add a small part of the stem if you don't have a lot of room.
The beauty of creating a composition from the garden is being able to put together colours that sing to you. I am taking my colour swatches around the garden and finding sympathetic plants to create a composition that makes me feel happy. You can use this process once you get confident with your flower painting and create colour compositions that make you happy too. This is the beauty of botanical art: one can perfect one's skills, take them to a higher level, and/or simply enjoy the art of gardening on the paper.
In this tutorial, I cover composing a picture in stages, painting twisted tendrils, long straight tendrils and gentle veining on the leaves.
The idea of this series of tutorials is to help you create compositions and describe a window into a world of colour combining.
Peace, love, gentle rain, and a little bit of sunshine
