This week, I decided to add a lovely soft background to the Tree Peony. I used the photograph as a guide, but then made my own decisions on what to leave out or add-in. It's fun to make these decisions, and it gives you space to be creative.
The secret to success in this week's painting is not to go too weak with your washes, be bold and mix a really dark green for the foliage and trees in the distance. Also, in order for the sky to look bright and cheerful keep your blue sky mixes really clean.
This week I have also used a hairdryer to help me in the process of drying and my large wash brush to help me keep the water glaze wet.
If you find working at this size a little daunting, you could reduce the image and make smaller studies, giving you a little bit more of a chance to practice the techniques several times over.
I know painting time is precious at this time of the year in the northern hemisphere, so do make sure you water the garden or pots and deadhead the roses, before you sit down to paint 🙂 and for those of you in the southern hemisphere, enjoying some cooler weather, happy painting!
Peace always.
