We are finally completing the blue Hyacinth study with the beautiful purple-gold bulb and a myriad of roots. I have used a little bit of artistic license to arrange the roots in a lovely pattern beneath the bulb and used them to underline the rest of the composition.
I have used the reference material, as a guide to the pattern and shapes that I needed for the detail, that way I could add it as a late addition to the juvenile flower in order to complete the picture.
If you have room to add the bulb and roots to your original painting study, you can do so, or you can use this to help you paint a bulb onto a new study.
I have used my number one brush to add all the little tiny spots to the bulb but by the time this tutorial is out my new 'spotter' brush will be available in my store. You'll be seeing a lot more of my new spotter brush in future tutorials.
I have also added the final wash to the leaf that we left undone; you can check the colour mixes for this in the previous hyacinth tutorial and use the same process as we did for all the other leaves.
Finally, I just want to thank you for being so patient on this tutorial and I hope you like the final result, if you were a member of my school and want to return to complete this study, then we will welcome you back with open arms, we have lots of lovely new tutorials and a bustling forum where you can share your painting journey.
Remember all the processes in this tutorial can be used on your own composition of your own hyacinths, in the UK they usually come out in the stores around wintertime, so you could treat yourself to a lovely end-of-year hyacinth project.
Have fun!
Warm wishes Billy x
