This beautiful Wisley RHS clematis, called to me from across the gardens, it is such a fantastic structure with such beautiful colours and cannot be ignored.
I chose certain elements from my photograph to create an interesting and sweeping small composition. It's always fun to experiment with ideas like this to see what pattern and balance can be achieved. It is a complicated little flower but worth the effort as I think it's so pretty.
In this tutorial, I give you a straightforward process and programme of work to complete this study, including a very beautiful and interesting leaf. You can take this project further and add more detail, or you can keep it soft and painterly. As always, the journey is yours :)
Don't be put off by the multiple petals; once you put on some gentle music and get painting with the tip of your brush, you will be surprised at how quickly this flower comes together.
Peace, gentle rain, and love.

'As I walked to the end of the garden path, clematis shading my way,
I thought of life and its beautiful gifts, and I was grateful today.
But we have used and bruised our mother earth, for generations now.
So, can’t we stop,
take stock,
repair some way,
somehow?'
