Dear perfect, practising painters, this week we add a beautiful tangerine-yellow rose to the latest composition. As always, everything in this composition could also be painted as a single study or added to other studies from the school or your own garden.
It’s a great colour to help you perfect your shadow-first technique. The colours in this flower are the most challenging, and everyone will mix slightly different colours as the shadows are uniquely unusual.
You can also place your studies in different positions, have a play with the tracings and see what looks fun. I love looking at all the options that appear through playing with composition. For me, combining plants and seeing joyful or unexpected colour combinations makes my time at the painting table so rewarding.
Just starting out? Or deciding what to paint? Just choose the flowers that you love to admire and repeat parts of them across the page, or choose the areas you find challenging and repeat them across the page. Time spent repeating challenges is time well spent; you will see your confidence grow.
As always, peace, love, and clement weather.
Billy xx
