Rose Spray Composition Part 1 - Preview

This week’s tutorial is the starting flowers for a page of glorious flowers, I am going to add leaves and other flowers to this page and show you how and why I place the flowers as I do, to create interesting compositions with movement and glorious colour combinations.

These roses have fire-coloured centres and gorgeous variations of warm and cold reds.

There are so many things to learn and practice with rose painting, as there are so many soft and subtle variations.

Each flower has its own character brought about by position, lighting, species or variety, I am hoping that my tutorials will take some of the fear away from painting rose portraits. There are areas of pure brush dancing on some of the petals to really encourage you to create delicate textures, patterns and depth of colour.
