Happy New Year and welcome back to the school for something a little more challenging.
The Coastal Banksia is well known and the dried branches lay everywhere on coastal paths in parts of Australia. This iconic plant is a lovely exercise in soft browns and tiny details.
I have hopefully covered all the painting approaches that are needed for painting this small branch. I have taken the detail to a comfortable point, but there is no stopping you from taking it to another level or perhaps trying a faster and softer approach.
I have brought into play all the small brushes from my collection. The fine liner plays an important task in very fine small dry-brushed areas.
It's been fun painting a plant that is not so familiar to me, and I hope that it will resonate with those of you who love these warm brown tones.
I want to add another short message here to, again, thank my team for the work they did last year to make the school run so smoothly. They are amazing, and thank you to all the members too!
Here's to a wonderful 2025 of painting towards perfection, celebrating our beautiful planet and all the wonderful plants that we love to paint.
Peace, goodwill and gentle weather to all.
Billy xx
