Hi, lovely painters, this week's project is a big one!
You don't have to paint all of this. You can just try a few of the petals if you want to simply perfect your petal painting.
Each section of petals has a slightly different approach, and we will be using the full range of techniques to create washes, shadows, texture, pattern, and everything else in between.
In this tutorial, you will learn about mixing lots of beautiful reds from the deepest purple through to magenta, all the way to the brightest pink, and all the different processes I use.
This is a project that you can do slowly, over a long period of time. The petal structure is complicated, the colours are intense; therefore, care and attention are needed throughout.
If you are just starting out with your botanical painting, and are new to all of this petal intensity, then maybe just draw out a few of the petals and have a go. Big projects like this can be a lovely resource, use it to practice all of the techniques, that way it takes all the stress out of painting.
Who knows, it might be the start of your Dahlia obsession.
Peace and happiness.
