Hi, lovely painting people, this week's project, being so close to the end of the year celebrations, is something small. I've decided to add an autumn Oak leaf next to our Acorn and Gall study.
There's something very pretty about autumn leaves, and the golden nature of the Oak leaf is perfect for a decorative painting.
In this tutorial, I show you how to add detail to some areas and soft detail to others and how to maintain light throughout. We've used a small brush and the spotter. I have also added a decorative motif of leaves and acorns painted in gold paint.
You could do this kind of arrangement with any of the native trees in your area. Perhaps start collecting the leaves, seeds and nuts and develop some beautiful study pages? If you want to work from life, hopefully, there'll be a tree near you that offers you similar areas of detail, light and shade that you can practice with, as working from life is always preferable.
Wishing you a lovely, calm December.
Happy painting, and peace always,
Billy x
