Hello lovely painters, this week's tutorial is a lovely Scallop shell portrait.
This shell would make a wonderful addition to your previous shell studies or perhaps something to go alongside the dry seaweed.
The tutorial is an homage to using a minimal palette of colours, you will see that often I mix just 3 colours in differing amounts to create very similar hues in different shades. I have taken a little artistic licence and painted this with a small amount of freedom i.e. not slavishly copying every little detail, so this allows you space to learn about brush pressure (how hard or soft to press the tip of the brush) and drying times, as well as techniques for adding pattern, without worrying too much about the dents and scratches (you can add those later!).
It is really important to keep the study mobile so that you can turn the painting to just the right angle to suit your hand.
Remember to protect other studies on the same page so that your hand is not resting on them.
Finally, I hope you are enjoying the latest tutorials and that they are beckoning you to the painting table.
Let's make time for the beautiful pursuits in life, where we can.
Peace and clement weather always
Billy x
