Hello, lovely floral, watercolour painters, our project this week is the underside of a Red Sunflower. Why do you want to paint the underneath, you ask? Well, there is a lot to learn just on this beautiful aspect of the sunflower.
In this tutorial, we learn about mixing the rainbow of colours that make up the beautiful florets. We mix up an intense range of greens for the bracts and the underneath of the flower head disc, and finally, we add beautiful, fine veins and all the tiny hairs.
In this project, gentle repetition is key; try not to take shortcuts and remember to let each section dry thoroughly. One day, we will attempt the face of the sunflower, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this challenging project with all its colour and fuzzy delight.
Peace and happiness always,
Billy x
